What is it and how is it composed

Collagen is one of the most abundant and important body proteins. It constitutes almost 30% of the total protein content of our organism. That is why it is an essential component of ligaments, bones, cartilages, tendons and skin. We can also locate it in the gums, scalp, blood vessels, and in the tissue that surrounds and protects our muscles and vital organs. Hence, there are 13 different types of collagen in the body.

This protein is composed of a long chain of amino acids, which when joined form thick laces called fibers, which provide strength and flexibility to our tissue. It is important to mention that from 35 or 40 years old, the body stops producing the same amount of collagen, and then wrinkles appear, because the skin loses elasticity, smoothness, and firmness.
